Haven, Lake Erie 2002
(Return to the sailing adventures of La Boatique)
June 18, 2002 Our First Day with Haven
Pete begins to remove the old bottom paint on our first day with Haven.
Pete rolls on the water barrier paint over the clean white fiberglas bottom.
Pete paints blue bottom paint over the gray water barrier paint. The hole in front of him is the bow thruster.
Pete works on the areas where the jack stands held up the boat. The stands are covered with plastic bags so that the stands do not mar the fresh paint.
Sue has the easy job. She removes the tape.
Cleveland, Ohio, where we found Haven.
Haven anchored on calm Lake Erie at Heidelberg Beach
When the firemen arrived in their bright red trucks, they got everyone's attention. They pulled in with sirens blaring. Along with two fire trucks they brought a small boat and a hazardous containment trailer. The firemen lowered their boat in the river and then dragged white booms across the river. The white booms are designed to soak up and contain the spilled gasoline.
