Pete gets ready to spear a fish at La Vache Bay, Trinidad on July 15, 1999. We were nearly 10 degrees from the equator but the water was a cool 70 degrees.
Pilot wales lie dead in the sand. On October 13 twenty-five pilot whales beached themselves on the west coast of Trinidad. Ten ended up dead before they could be rescued.
We poured water on the dead whales to keep them fresh for the autopsy. Pete helps the young cruiser Dori fill her pail with water from the South Atlantic Ocean.

Flowererful Coral Cove Marina, Chagauramas, Trinidad November 1999

This 500 pound leatherback turtle came to shore to lay 80 eggs in the soft sand at Matura Beach, Trinidad during July 2000.
Pete holds this baby leatherback turtle
in his hand. We watched this turtle head to sea.
A kidney stone blocked Pete's ureter. The painful stone had to be fragmented and removed in Trinidad.
Pete paints the bottom of La Boatique at Coral Cove Marina in Chagauramas, Trinidad on September 21. Our new anchor chain is layed out on the long cement post in the foreground. The blue plastic tarp gave us some protection from the sun and rain while the boat was sitting on jack stands.
