I fell in love with MG BGT's when I was four years old and my grandfather bought a used 1970 BGT. I promptly told him that if he ever sold the car I would never speak to him again. He never did sell it. In fact the complete restoration of the car is almost finished. The car has a new motor, interior, electrics, et. The body work is the real stunner, though. A beautiful British Racing Green. |
My car is a completely different story. I took all of the good stuff from my old '68 (engine, complete front & rear suspensions, SS exhaust, rims, and basically anything else that was not rusted out) and mated these parts to a very rust free body shell. everything came out or off of the new car except the O.D. transmission! My car will be more of a daily driver (but not in the winter!). This will be the fourth fully operational MG I have owned, and the second nicest. The body man for my grandfather's car owns my old '79 convertible that I sold when I got my '86 Camaro. I kick myself hard every time I think about this, because I should have just stored the car instead of selling it. What the hell did I know then any ways, I was only 20 at the time. |
The first big trip I plan to take with my '73 is to the MG museum in Westminster, VT. (802-722-3708) in August '98 during my annual vacation to Vermont. I think it is well worth the time to check the museum out. They have 29? examples of MG's. Everything from a 1928 14/28 Super Sports to one of the factory "A" racers that ran at Le Mans. |
To find out more about MG's try the MG Cars Enthusiasts' Club. Click here to see a picture of a very nice, but wrong color, 1973 BGT Click here to see what my grandfather drives (These pictures are not our actual cars, just the same years). |
I totally missed last summer's deadline. Between getting a new job and spending my MG money on my computer, I missed by about a light year. Hopefully everything will work out for August '97. I just paid the body man and things are finally rolling along. I got the radio console I needed (thanks Gary!) and now have all of the parts I need to complete the car as far as I know. I may even have some new picture in a few weeks. |
The project is continuing forward little by little. Vacation is next week (8-25) so I will get to work a few days on the car. The car will not make VT this year. Looks like it will be August '98 before I get to the Westminster museum with my MG! See the progress shots below. |
** REBUILD UPDATE 5-3-98 **
I finally got back out to the garage and started in on the car. Sort of. I actually worked on the Camaro most of the day and only got to the MG for about an hour. At least it's a start. |

Old 1968 daily driver.

Ready for the new paint job.
I should have it done sometime this summer (1998). If everything works out... (It didn't in '96 or '97). Back to text
Thank you for checking out my MG Page! I will post new pictures as my '73 project, and my grandfather's '70 project, move along. Stop back in to see if I make my August ('98) deadline! |
