The Erie Canal

Welcome to the Erie Canal

Lock

Pictured is a green flood gate.  Below the flood gate are the canal doors, one of which is opening.  Behind the canal doors is a green bridge for vehicles.

Haven travels the Erie Canal

Haven has lots of fenders for keeping us off the lock walls.  In this section of the canal the boats are higher than the homes.

Bike path along the Erie Canal

Dad and I road bikes along the canal for 8 miles while Mom and Pete motored from town to town on Haven.

Lock 17a

Mom is on the bow while Pete and the lock operator wait for me to snap the picture.  I wanted to show how rugged the terain was in this area.

Pete helping again

Pete helps Larry and Denise try to get their batteries charging again.

Mom and Dad ride along

The "No jumping or diving" board came from Heidelberg Beach, Vermilion, Ohio.  We used the board to keep Haven away from the often slimy and rough lock walls.

The end of the Erie Canal

Pete took this picture from Haven while we were in the last lock of the Erie Canal.  On the other side of the lock wall is the Waterford, New York town dock where we stayed for two nights.

The Erie Canal

The Erie Canal connects Lake Erie to the Hudson River allowing Great Lakes boaters to get to the Atlantic Ocean.
